This is the tree where I died. From here, I hanged myself hundreds, perhaps thousands of times. To pay for my mistakes, I walked up its steps, tied a rope around my neck, and escaped this world. It’s challenging to hold captive dark thoughts that are too wild to share with even the closest friends. My secret battle with depression was one of them.

I was on a boat in the middle of a pristine lake in New Hampshire with a good friend. The day was perfect— the wind was caressing my skin, the leaves were turning red, the sun was warm and it was essentially the most perfect day anyone could be in. We put this song on loop and it must made everything more ‘perfecter’. Perfect serendipity. I was grateful.

Ever since the web gave consumers and brands megaphones to express themselves, communication has become a big mosh pit where everyone jumps and shouts incessantly to be heard above the noise. But no one is listening. There is an absolute imbalance between the supply and demand of information.

It’s time to change direction; it’s time for the “quiet brand.”
